The Best Way to Help Overweight Children Loose Weight
Obesity has the trappings of an epidemic nowadays. Sure, it is not contagious, but the social, economic, or psychological background that forms the fertile ground for breeding obesity, have appear to become more prevalent in the United States. This situation suggests that even children should preferably be made to accept the regimen of a weight loss program early enough.
Is anyone, or any social or economic condition, responsible for this situation? It does not appear to be so. As in the case of many of society’s ills, obesity is the result of the cumulative action of several factors. Fast foods and packaged and processed foods have become a necessity in today’s living conditions. Junk food is having a field day, and more and more varieties are getting added to the junk food platter every day. People are bombarded with commercials through every information media like TV, radio, and newspapers, as well as through brochures that restaurants and fast food chains supply. Kids find the stuff simply irresistible with attractive pictures of it jumping into their circle of vision from TVs and pamphlets. The net result of all this is that they are fat, and many of them do not do any exercise as well. A weight loss program is strongly recommended for them. But this should not be in the form of a strict diet program, but other methods that can be easily integrated into their young lifestyle.
A child cannot be put on a diet, but can be placed on a weight loss program. What then, is the difference between the two? A weight loss program mainly involves changing the eating patterns of the child. Ensure that a child’s food intake is balanced, both calorie-wise and nutrition-wise. Substantial amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables are an absolute must in a child’s daily diet. While these should be increased, junk food should be decreased. Of course, restraining junk food need not be total, and not absolute like a military order. Limit it as much as possible and let them have it once in a while, just enough to satisfy their childish fancies. Even while letting them have junk food, see to it that they get only Trans fat free food. Furthermore, encourage them to become more physically active. Divide their time in such a way that they get time for their video games, television, computer, as well as for plenty of physical exercises.
The word diet has certain negative connotations in that it emphasizes just on thinning and not as much on good health. Weight loss programs also aim at getting rid of a few pounds, but it is done only as an accompaniment to remaining healthy. The emphasis here is more on health than in mere appearance. When you coax a child into good eating patterns and body building activities at a tender age, you are paving a solid foundation for long-term health, good eating patterns, and are also training him/her into bringing up the next generation of healthy offspring.
